After-School Homework Help

Every Monday through Thursday, MOI is packed with students and tutors working on all subjects. Our trained tutors provide invaluable support to students in the community through our free drop-in tutoring model. We endeavor to pair volunteer tutors one-on-one with students to offer academic support across all subjects.

When: Monday–Thursday, 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Tutoring sessions are 90 minutes.

Where: MOI Headquarters

Who: Students from kindergarten to senior year are welcome in our space!

Students are also led through daily creative writing prompts and exercises at the Writer's Table. The table is staffed by our friendly Writer-in-Residence, Ellen, who designs prompts for students of all ages. At the end of each semester, student poems, essays, and stories written during tutoring are collected and published in a chapbook. We strive for each After-School Homework Help student to publish at least one piece in the anthology.

Expectations and Guidelines

Our tutors help students set homework goals, finish assignments, and learn all sorts of interesting stuff along the way. However, there are a few guidelines. Students are expected to have an assignment or project to complete during their time at MOI. The tutoring center also closes promptly at 6:00 p.m. Parents need to make accommodations and arrangements for their students to be picked up. After-School Homework Help also runs in accordance to the Minneapolis Public Schools calendar; if there is an emergency closing for weather related reasons or holiday breaks, our office is closed as well.

Our Writer-In-Residence is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
